トルコアイス (Turkey Ice)

Turkey/Iceland is a slash pairing in Hetalia: Axis Powers, involving the characters of Iceland and Turkey, originating from the Christmas 2010 site event in which they interacted heavily. Is commonly known as 土氷 (??), Soil Ice, トルコアイス (??), Turkey Ice, and おじさんショック (??) Old Man Shock, in the Japanese fandom.

Christmas Events

At the beginning of the Christmas Bloodbath 2010, an incredibly inebriated Turkey shows up with Iceland as Finland answers fan's emails. Turkey repeatedly refers to Iceland as 'Bocchan', which embarrasses Iceland, but Iceland in turn refers to Turkey as 'Oji-san' or 'Pops'. When Turkey goes off by himself to use the bathroom, Iceland gets a sudden bad feeling and runs after him, warning the older country not to go off alone. When they return, the other countries had gone missing, confirming Iceland's suspicions. The pair then proceed to work together to fight off the shadow invaders, until they are also captured.

During the Christmas Special in 2011, Iceland is flipping through a brochure advertising a tour of Northern Europe, and expressing frustration that he was left off the itinerary. He again wonders to Mr. Puffin how he can attract tourists to his island. In the next panel, a half naked Turkey wearing a Santa hat and wielding a wand appears, promising to help Iceland improve his tourism. He then picks up Iceland and flies into the sky, saying this sort of feature will make his tourism very popular, and Iceland thanks him. Iceland suddenly wakes up, the former scenes having been a dream, and yells about why he's having these sorts of dreams.

Fan Speculations

In terms of historical context, Turkey's most infamous interaction with Iceland were the Turkish Abductions in 1627, where 400 Icelanders were kidnapped by Turkish pirates to be sold as slaves throughout the Ottoman Empire. After a decade of negotiations between the Ottoman Empire and Denmark, roughly 27 Icelanders were returned.
